how to get inspired + spark your creativity!

let’s get inspired, babe!

How are you doing? I just wrote an entire post that somehow didn’t save in case you were wondering how I’m doing (lol) I don’t know about you but I am definitely at the point of quarantine where I am really missing some of the routines in my life that I had before this all went down.

I am incredibly grateful that all of us and our friends and family have been lucky enough to be safe and will never take any of that for granted.

Since I am such a planner type person who loves any excuse to pull out the cute stationery and making lists + plan fun things, I am longing for feeling some of that normalcy. Being a first time mom and on mat leave has been really different for me as I am used to working a lot and always planning my next big event.

I have been feeling extra creative lately and wanted to really bring some of my fun ideas to life. I decided to hold myself accountable and start taking some little steps to accomplish what I want to (somewhat anyway!)

Now that Otis is on (somewhat) of a sleep schedule and going to bed around 7:00pm, evenings have been my nights to “Get Sh*t Done” Well, depending on how exhausted I feel at the end of the day! ;)

Since I am currently starring in my own movie called “How Jules Got Her Groove Back” I thought maybe some of you might be feeling the same way (It’s hard not to, right?) and I wanted to share:

  1. write it down (!!!)
Call me old fashioned but I love writing things out and making actually lasts rather than doing them virtually. Don’t get me wrong I make notes on my phone sometimes too, but nothing feels better than actually writing things down (especially if you’re someone like me who seems to always have a lot on their mind & lots of ideas!

  2. tell someone your goals (!!!)

This could be posting on social talking about something your working on, talking to a friend or partner, or a colleague. I think being vocal about a goal or something you’re working on helps you be accountable and inspire you to keep on working on your project!

  3. use a calendar/planner (!!!)

It felt really weird for me to not use a planner for a few months during the quarantine, and I just recently started getting into it again. I find this really helpful for keeping track of what is going on and also setting deadlines/making plans and having timelines.

  4. COLLABORATE (!!!)
it’s completely normal to have writer’s block or not feel inspired right now. We are going through is incredibly tough and emotionally draining. Finding someone you love and are inspired by to work with is a perfect way to ignite that creative spark. I recently met someone really awesome online and we’re going to work on something VERY cool together soon. I felt so darn good after chatting about this and it was just what I needed.

  5. choose your creative day of the week (!!!)

I am trying to have at least one night a week to work on my creative ventures like blogging, podcasting (lol, ya ok when?), etc. I am hoping to have Sundays as my “day” but this week I’ve actually had a few which has just felt really nice. Choosing a day and sticking with it is a really great way to ensure this will happen week after week

  6. make a list of goals (!!!)
The smallest things tend to take up space in our minds. Maybe its something big, but likely something small we’ve wanted to accomplish but just can’t seem to. I am a firm believer in brainstorming and curating a list that feels perfect for me. I love doing my yearly list of goals (which let’s be honest, I am terrified to check up on)

  7. work on a project that needs a deadline (!!!)

I recently got asked to be interviewed for a LinkedIn article all about culture + the future of work. I love doing these kinds of things and was really excited to take part. I found that since I was doing this for someone else, I really had to ensure it got done in a timely manner. Instead of pushing it off night after night (hello old friend!) I had to take the time to complete it.

  8. comparison is the thief of joy (!!!)

We’re all guilty of it. It’s tough not to be in the age of social media, that’s for sure. I find myself feeling this way more than ever since becoming a mom. We get inside our heads so much. We always want to be better, to do better, to work harder, to achieve so much. It’s easier said than done, but get rid of the people who are making you feel like less of a person. Follow people who inspired you, lift you up, support you, and cheer you on. When you build a community like that, you’ll want to amazing things for them.

Alright, so after reading this, do you feel any better? I feel better after writing it that’s for sure. Here’s to doing what we love, feeling creative again + putting what we love out into the world for everyone to see!

LOVE YA!
