5 books you need to read right now (!!!)
Well, Fall is officially here and I think we can all agree it’s time to really #stayhome again and make sure we’re all safe and doing everything we can to stop the spread of COVID. I know we’ve all got different situations at home and depending on our family and work lives, might not always be able to carve out time to read. However, I think we’re rolling into the best seasons for being home, cozy and curled up with a good book!
I have read more in 2020 than I have the last few years, and that’s coming from a new mom too! I have just been really trying to actively seek out books I am really excited about, and spend less time on my phone and more with my head in a book. I especially want to do this more before bed, because it’s just really nice, ya know?
I know I personally love hearing about books from folks I follow, so I thought it would be good to give you all a shortlist of my favourite books from 2020 so you can pick them up, get cozy + ger your hygge on!
We Have Always Been Here // Not just because it was the CANADA READS WINNER of 2020, but because this is just an incredible book in every way. My brother Dave was actually the editor of this book, which makes it even more special. I got to attend the launch party and hear Samara get interviewed about her story, and knew I’d just adore this book. Also, fun fact; my 95-year-old Grandma read this book!
Such a Fun Age // Kiley Reid writes a powerful story. This was one of those can’t-put-down kind of books which I really needed at the time. Sometimes you just need a book that you will fall in love with to get you back into making time to read. This gives you just a taste of the racism that millions of people face every single day. This was a powerful way to better understand that every little thing makes a big impact
Untamed // I mean, how could I not read this? The entire world seemed to be reading it (and although I don’t like to do something just because everyone else is doing it) I really felt like this was one I needed to read, and I am glad I did. Glennon is such a powerhouse and incredible thinker, dreamer, and writer. I had a lot of “ah-ha” moments throughout this and even went back and highlighted my favourite quotes/sections. I hope to do a blog post (or maybe podcast too!) to share my favourite moments.
Dead Mom Walking // The title may throw you off, but don’t let that hold you back from reading this story. Another one of my brother’s books he edited! (I can’t help but boast) In this one, Rachel shares her beautiful, heartbreaking story of her mother’s decision to try to heal herself from cancer naturally. Rachel is an incredible storyteller and does a beautiful job showcasing how dynamic her mother was. This book had be laughing one minute and sobbing the next. Go! buy! it! now!
Joyful // Um, the title says it all! This book is not only beautiful to look at but filled with so many happy, wonderful things that are sure to bring you joy. I was actually thinking of rereading this during the next few months and will definitely highlight parts that really resonate with me. Ingrid does an amazing job sharing the ins and outs of living a joyful life, and how things like colour, travel, and home decor are factors into living joyful lives. Would love to do a post all about this book soon too!
I plan to share a post on my fave kids books soon for you all! Have a great week!
