10 ways to connect with your loved ones that *aren't* video calls
Hey you! How are you? Hope all is great. Not too much new to report here, but am missing my favourite people so much right now (still) I’ve found the last few weeks extra heavy, since being in our third lockdown here in Toronto.
I want to have my friends over. I want to hug them! I want to make charcuterie boards, cute spreads and use all my cutest napkins up. I want to listen to good music, laugh, cry and reminisce. Something that I’ve found extra challenging lately is my lack of desire to do any type of zoom or Face time with people. Don’t get me wrong, I miss my people so darn much! But, at the end of the work day, when we’re trying to juggle two work from home schedules, keeping Otis busy, fed and entertained…well quite frankly I am truly exhausted. Some nights I feel productive and am able to get things done, and some nights I honestly only have the energy to lay down and relax.
I definitely still find ways to connect over video, especially with family and especially because I want people to be able to see our sweet little Otie!
But, I thought I’d share with you a few things you could do to show your loved ones that you’re thinking of them that isn’t a video call :) :
send voice memos! - ok, not gonna lie i am so obsessed with sending voice memos! i LOVE doing this and get so much joy from my friends reactions to these! extra bonus if they send one back hehe! i really love sending these via text or even on instagram!
send a little handwritten card or letter in the mail - i have always been a big fan of snail mail. i love any excuse to send a little love in the mail, and happen to have a really good selection of stationery i’ve been saving for the occasion. why not buy some local cards and send them out to your pals?
get food or treats delivered - this has been one of my fave ones! i have most friends addresses and have been sending surprise goodies their way! anything from a meal, coffees or a gift box. it’s always so appreciated and also great to support local businesses
send flowers! - “i must have flowers always + always” ooh baby do i ever love having fresh flowers, and honestly who doesn’t? this is another great way to support local and truly brighten someone’s day!
tag them in a funny meme - i can’t help but have a giggle and feel all warm and fuzzy when someone tags me in a funny meme or one that makes them think of me! it’s just a small, simple way to say you’re thinking of them :)
text them old photos or notes you have - this is truly my love language. i’ve always loved doing this but since the pandemic have really made sure it happens more. i love going through old photos, cards and letters from friends and family and taking a pic to send to them! this is a really great way to connect with old friends you haven’t talked to in a while too!
make plans for the future - it’s tough to set something in stone and choose an exact date, but tell your people what you hope you can do together when the pandemic is over! anything from a coffee date, cottage weekend, picnic or pool party. the possibilities are endless!
send a random i love you text - what better way to start your day then getting a little text from someone you love saying they’re thinking of you? it’s such an easy ask that is so needed right now. i love a good love + miss you text!
plan a good ol’ fashion phone call (where you can lay in bed or just be loungin’) - i’ve been doing this more lately and it’s so nice. something about a good ol’ fashion phone call to warm your heart and remind you how good it feels to connect with the people you love.
create a playlist for them - remember mix cd’s? those were most definitely my wheelhouse! most people have spotify these days, and if they do you can create a fun playlist of songs that remind you of someone!
Hope you enjoyed this post and try one of these out! Are there any other things you’re loving lately to stay connected to all of your favourite people?
